This rugged cellular router is designed as an outdoor (dust-proof and water-proof) uCPE device. It enables edge computing, SD-WAN, IoT edge, and automation in the most challenging environments.

Rugged Router compliant with IP67 and MILSTD-810G

Lanner’s ISD-O370 is an all-weather, fanless, and ruggedized fanless edge router— designed for the most remote and harsh deployments. It can operate under temperatures ranging from -40 to 60ºC and humidity levels ranging from 5 to 90%. One of the highlights of this edge industrial router is that it is compliant with the IP67 and the MILSTD-810G standards.

The IP67 (Ingress Protection 67), defined by the IEC 60529, is a standard that guarantees that the mechanical casing or enclosure of the appliance was built with the proper measures to avoid the accidental introduction of dust and water that could damage the inside electronics. The IP67, in particular, is entirely dust resistant and can be immersed in one meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes.

The ISD-O370 is also MILSTD-810G-compliant. Although the US Military Standard (MILSTD) -810G is often only applied within US Military applications, it is also in a few cases used for commercial uses. This standard tests electronic devices against high-low temperature, rain, vibration, shock, humidity, and salt fog and ensures they operate in harsh environments.

Rugged Cellular Router with 5G and WiFi 6 Support.

The ISD-O370 is not only robust on the outside but also quite powerful on the inside. This rugged edge cellular router is powered by an Intel Atom® C3000 (codenamed Denverton) processor for solid performance and speed. Intel’s third generation System-on-a-Chip (SoC)-based CPU, Intel Atom C3000, is explicitly designed for network and edge solutions. In addition, the Intel Atom C3000 is also integrated with Intel QuickAssist Technology (Intel QAT) for cryptography acceleration.

To match Intel’s Atom C3000 performance, the ISD-O370 comes with DDR4 (up to 2133 MT/s ECC SODIMM) of addressable memory. The maximum capacity of this DDR4 memory is 64 GB (Default ECC RAM 16GB x1). The SoC also has integrated I/O (one console and one USB), four GbE LAN, and two GbE POE+ ports.

Having more capacity in terms of computing, storage, bandwidth, and I/O at the edge creates many opportunities. For instance, 5G Communication Service Providers (CSPs) can leverage edge computing capabilities to avoid backhauling traffic to the mobile network core. CSPs can empower their last mile, including branch data centers (SD-WAN), 5G base stations (MEC), and customers (uCPE) with edge computing.

ISD-O370: Rugged Cellular Router Use Cases.

Being rugged (IP67 and MILSTD-810G) makes the ISD-O370 cellular router perfect for industrial or military environments. In addition, having robust wireless support with 4G, 5G, and WiFi6 makes the appliance suitable for outdoor, remote, or unmanned applications. Furthermore, having edge computing capabilities makes the ISD-O370 appropriate for applications requiring very low latencies, improved bandwidth, and offline processing.

Some examples?

  • SD-WAN in Manufacturing. Industrial applications, such as manufacturing, might require SD-WAN to connect their branch factories to the headquarters. An industrial-grade UCPE-based SD-WAN solution that can use different transport networks (private 4G, 5G, Internet over VPN) can make their communications faster and more reliable. ISD-O370 is designed for Industrial SD-WAN, uCPE, network edge, or cybersecurity. It can manufacturers deploy SD-WAN in challenging environments.
  • Edge IoT gateway for smart cities. The ISD-O370 acts as an intelligent industrial IoT gateway. In a smart city edge IoT deployment, all IoT devices communicate data on a network (through wireless or ethernet communications or using Power over Ethernet). These devices might be gathering roadside, traffic, parking, pollution data, etc., and transmitting this raw data to a wireless IIoT gateway (ISD-O370). This gateway, in turn, can process data on-site to make it ready for humans or pre-process it for further analysis on a remote server. This helps reduce latencies associated with the cloud.
  • Rugged cellular Router for Smart Agriculture. Smart farming or smart agriculture can be a broad topic covering technologies like IoT, smart sensors, edge systems, robots, and AI— all in a farm. A rugged cellular router providing edge capabilities (such as ISD-O370) can take a simple farm one step closer to a “smart one.” The ISD-O370 is designed as an outdoor, waterproof cellular router to be deployed in challenging and sometimes unmanned applications such as farms that need a certain degree of intelligence. It can allow applications like drone control, climate and soil monitoring, automated vehicles, or mobile robots.
