In today’s digital age, businesses across various industries rely on a robust and secure network infrastructure to streamline operations, enhance customer experiences and ensure data privacy. One such industry is the pharmacy store chain, where efficient communication, real-time inventory management, and secure data transfer are vital for seamless operations. To address these challenges, implementing a Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solution offers numerous benefits that can revolutionize the way large-scale drugstore chains operate.

Background

In today’s digital age, businesses across various industries rely on a robust and secure network infrastructure to streamline operations, enhance customer experiences and ensure data privacy. One such industry is the pharmacy store chain, where efficient communication, real-time inventory management, and secure data transfer are vital for seamless operations. To address these challenges, implementing a Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solution offers numerous benefits that can revolutionize the way large-scale drugstore chains operate.

Pharmacy store chains are strategically offering more healthcare services, and connecting a multitude of drugstore locations with massive data footprints and ever-changing product and service lines can be challenging. With SD-WAN implementation, corporate technology teams gain insight into the performance of every drugstore location network, and can then proactively and securely manage bandwidth and data flow to meet specific business objectives.

Requirements

A real-time, centralized SD-WAN solution would provide each store site greater visibility and control over the applications driving growth. A Middle Eastern pharmacy store chain strived to reform its network to provide increased performance and reliable access while lowering network costs. Migrating to an SD-WAN architecture was the solution, providing flexible interoperable configurations, increasing the network’s traffic visibility and scalability, and providing secure optimized connectivity at each site. Lanner collaborated with a leading SD-WAN software provider and regional system integrator to construct a uCPE platform, that meets the following requirements and benefits:

  • Powerful Performance

The appliance should have multi-core processor architecture and expansion modules for increased performance to run concurrent services, all in a small form factor.

  • Multi-Tenancy Structure

The multi-tenant design allows company headquarters to separate and secure each branch site’s network from each other, providing secure optimized connectivity with visible centralized management.

  • Multi-WAN Support Connectivity

The appliance must be able to support a variety of communications options to seamlessly integrate public and private transport and intelligently route traffic to effectively utilize bandwidth, including MPLS, Ethernet, internet, broadband, and 4G/5G. The system must support 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity to enable real-time data collection and analysis and support payment terminals and other digital initiatives in the branch site.

  • Robust Data Security

The pharmacy store chain handles sensitive patient information, making data security and compliance a top priority. SD-WAN solutions provide enhanced security measures to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and potential vulnerabilities. Onboard TPM for securing crypto-processing and tamper resistance at the hardware level, ensuring that data transmitted between branches and data centers remains secure and confidential.
